Smarter Shelf, for smart shoppers

While conventional grocery shelves usually feature only a product’s price, Smarter Shelf is a an interactive digital display. Shoppers can compare prices of the shelved items, and with a wave of the hand change the display to explore other categories of comparison, e.g. nutritional information, allergins, diet-compatiblity, etc. No more having to inspect the small print information on the back of items individually. Shoppers can make decisions based on a preferred category at a glance and save time! Developed in collaboration with JiHyun Lee.

We are using C++ and openFrameworks to display information on the shelves, Arduino with Infrared Proximity Sensor to recognize user’s hand gestures and Firmata for communicating between Arduino and openFrameworks.
